ORLANDO CITY CHOOSE TO PLAY DEFENCE

Orlando City played a goalless draw with Toronto on Wednesday night.

Each side picked a point each after the game played at BMO field. Orlando City would not be too happy with the results as the draw left them five points away from the red line in the Eastern Conference. The club would be focused on getting it right in the next three games.

Orlando’s defence improved as they were able to stop the attacks from Toronto. Orlando entered the game on a losing streak. They lost three games, conceding as much as four goals each. Also, compared to the games played against Toronto last season where they lost 9-1 on aggregate, Orlando did better.

“I’m pleased. Performance was really good. We asked for massive defensive commitment from the players. They gave us that tonight. When they do that, we get shutouts and put ourselves in position to win games,” Jason Kreis said in a post-match interview. Kreis said that they also enjoyed attacking chances and could have walked away with all three points, instead of the one point they got.

Orlando lost to LA Galaxy 4-2, lost at home again to Columbus Crew, and then suffered another 4-1 embarrassment from D.C. United. Their last win was when play maker Kaka scored twice in the 4-1 victory over Montreal Impact.

“Defensively we were very compact and structured. We were willing to work. Coming to a place like here, which is a very hard place to play, and getting a shutout is a step in the right direction,” Midfielder Servando Carrasco said.

While content with the team’s performance, Kreis said he would have been much happier if they could have stolen the three points. The future is still bleak as they still have three games, but Kreis opines that the team would impress at home.
